July 28: A 22-year-old labourer, who was called by a political leader affiliated with National Panthers Party (NPP) to his house on Saturday morning in Surankote area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, died under mysterious conditions.Reports reaching GNS said that Zahid Iqbal, 22, son of Mohammad Azad of Madana, Surankote was on Saturday called by NPP leader Mohammad Ishfaq Rana to his home in Dunak, Surankote.Later in the afternoon, the NPP leader and his family members tookIqbal to sub-district hospital Surankote in an unconscious state where doctors declared him broughtdead, reports said.In the meantime, the family members of the deceased youth also reached the spot and had a heated argument with the NPP leader. They alleged that the political leader called Iqbal to his home where “they tortured him to death”.As the family members of the deceased shouted over the NPP leader over his alleged involvement in the murder, the political leader fled from the spot.Station House Officer (SHO) Surankote Mohammad Anzar Mir told GNS that there are some visibletorture marks over the youth’s body.So far at this initial stage, the death is mysterious but we are hopeful to crack the case soon, the SHO said.He said after conducting the legal medico formalities including the post-mortem, the body of the deceased has been handed over to his family for last rites.“A case under 174 CrPc has been registered and further investigations were taken up in this regard,” the police officer said.
