February 28,2018 Weather department on Wednesday predicted heavy rains and snow in Jammu and Kashmir State for next three days which may affect the air traffic and Srinagar-Jammu highway.

A fresh Western Disturbance is affecting the Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas and most likely to affect the state from 01-03-2018 (March 01) morning to 03-03-2018 (Forenoon) (March 03),” an official of the Metrological department (MeT)Said.

Under the influence of this system, moderate rain and snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and moderate snowfall in Ladakh, mainly in Kargil district, the official said.

“Higher reaches of Kashmir and Jammu most likely to receive moderate to heavy rain and snow. Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama and Badgam districts will most likely receive heavy rain and snow”, the official said.

The inclement weather may lead to disruption of surface transportation mainly (National Highway), the official added.

Meanwhile, Minister for Disaster Management Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Javaid Mustafa Mir has directed the Divisional and District Disaster Management Authorities to be in a state of preparedness in view of the inclement weather forecast issued by Meteorological Department for next three days.

The Minister instructed IGP Traffic to ensure that all precautionary measures are taken well in advance for smooth traffic movement and clearance of stranded vehicles as the inclement weather may lead to the temporary closure of the National Highway.

As per MeT department moderate to rather heavy rain (in plains) /snowfall (in higher reaches) of Jammu and Kashmir is likely from 1st to 3rd March with the possibility of heavy rain /snowfall on 1st and 2nd March in South Kashmir.
