Kupwara Oct 12 :  The Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Saturday remained shut for third consecutive day against the killing of scholar-turned-militant Manan Wani and his associate in a gunfight on Thursday in Shatgund Village of Handwara.

Reports said that a complete shutdown is being observed in Kupwara town, Trehgam, Handwara, Langate and Lolab areas of the district.

A minor stone pelting protest was also reported from Potshai area of Lolab.

Authorities have closed all the schools and colleges as a ‘precautionary measure to maintain law and order’ in the area.

Reports said that the police have placed checking points at different places on the way leading to Lolab.

“Policemen are checking identity cards of all the persons and those not residing in the area are not allowed to move towards Lolab,” said a local of Lolab who was travelling from Kupwara to Lolab.(GK)
