Kishtwar road mishap leaves 17 dead, 16 injured

Srinagar, Sep 14 (KNS): At least 17 persons including three women died in a deadliest accident that occurred near Dharbadan Thakraie road at Tahgatan area in Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Friday.
A matador bearing registration number JK17-0663, boarding 33 passengers was on its way from Keshwan to Kishtwar when it turned turtle and fell into 250 ft deep gorge in the wee hours of this morning, thus led to the death of 17 persons including three women and some youth aged nearly 20-year-old.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) confirmed the death of 17 passengers, saying one among the deceased died at a Jammu hospital
The deceased as per the district administration Kishtwar were identified as Akhter Hussain Butt son of Muhammad Ramzan Butt of Nagarna Keshwan, Muhammad Yousuf son of Maqbool Rather of Sirgwari Keshwan, Majeeda Begum wife of Ghulam Hussain of Sirgwari, Girdari Lal son of Diya Ram of Murna Anjole, Nazir Ahmad son of Abdul Aziz Rather of Sirgwari, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din son of Gulam Rasool Rather of Nagaran Keshwan, Tariq Hussain son of Ghulam Hussain Khanday of Sirgwari, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ali Shah of Sirgwari (owner of the vehicle), Umar son of Abdul Majeed of Sirgwari (age 22-23 years), Abdul Jabbar son of Bashir Ahmad of Srawan (age 28 years), Nazir son of Habibullah of Ghat Doda (age 18 years), Kasim son of Taj din of Sirgwari (age 36 years), Ashraf Hussain son of Bashir Naik of Dharbdan Thakrie (age 25 years), Shaheena Begum wife of Ghulam Nabi of Sarwa Keshwan, Misra Begum wife of Nazir Ahmad Rather of Sirgwari (age 32 years) and Vikram Kumar son of Ashok Kumar of Kanoor Thakrie (age 18-19 years).
The injured as per the DC Kishtwar were identified as Ismail son of Mangoo Gujjar of Udna Sirgwar age 35 years, Irfan son of Muhammad Shafi of Nangni Keshwan (age 18 years), Aisha daughter of Ghulam Nabi of Srawan (2 years), Waseem Raja son of Nazir Ahmad of Sirgwari Thakrie (8 years), Yousuf son of Bahan Nayak of Sranwan Thakrie (19 years), Sajad begum wife of Abdul Rashid of Keshwan, Lal Singh son of Phool singh of Thakrie(age 60 years), Mukhta Begum alias Shabnum wife of Habibullah of Ghat Doda, Abdul Rashid son of Subhan sheikh of Keshwan Thakrie, Abdullah Sheikh son of Rehman Sheikh of Keshwan (age 50 years), Sakeena daughter of Shabir Ahmad and wife of Tariq Hussain of Dadpeth, Mudasir Ahmad son of Muhammad Ayoub Butt of Binoon Bonjwah, Kuldeep Sing son of Mohinder Singh of Thakrie, Azhar Hussain son of Mohi-ud-din of Keshwan, Tariq Hussain son of Shabir Hussain of Dadpeth, Fareena wife of Ghulam Nabi of Sranwan and Ashok Kumar son of Asaram of Karoon Thakrie.
DC Kishtwar further told KNS that as soon as the news of accident spread, he along with SSP Kishtwar Rajinder Kumar Gupta and a team of officers from civil and police administration accompanied with the rescue team reached the spot and started the rescue operations in full swing.
He informed that 11 injured persons were airlifted to Jammu hospital for the treatment where one among them succumbed to his injuries, thus taking the death toll to 17.
DC further added that the bodies have been sent to native places of the deceased.
He added that the government has announced the ex-gratia of Rs 5.00 lac each to the family who lost their family member in the accident and relief of Rs 50000 each in favour of injured person out of Governor’s Relief fund.
Governor Satya Paul Malik expressed his deep grief over the accident and issued directions to the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to ensure immediate medical treatment to the injured besides providing all other facilities.
It is worth to mention here that MLA Kishtwar Sunil Sharma and MLA Inderwal G.M Saroori also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operations.
Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Jatinder Singh and former chief minister CM Mehbooba Mufti talked with DC Kishtwar over phone and expressed their shock and showed their concern towards the rising incidents of accidents in the district.
They expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved families. They also offered possible assistance and support to the affected families.
Furthermore, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Firdous Ahmed Tak both MLCs of the district have also expressed their heartfelt condolences over the tragic accident. (KNS)
