Srinagar : A JCB operator died while clearing a landslide along the 300-kilomtre Srinagar-Jammu highway in the mountainous Ramban district this morning.

27-year-old Jamsheed Ahmad was clearing the highway from a landslide at Digdole when he saw huge rocks coming in the direction of the JCB he was operating, a police official told Kashmir Reader. Ahmad, he said jumped from the JCB to escape from the shooting stones.

“In the fall, he sustained injuries and was taken to Ramsoo dispensary for treatment. However, at the hospital he succumbed to his injuries,” the official said.

Ahmad is a native of Thalala village of Doda.

Meanwhile, restoration work is in progress in the area to clear highway from the landslide. Officials told Kashmir Reader that highway is expected to be thrown open for traffic in a few hours.(KR)
