Handwara, 22 Aug  : The government forces on early Wednesday called off the several hours anti-militant operation in Handwara village of Frontier district after the trapped militants managed to escape.

The gunfight had raged between forces and militants on Tuesday evening after the soldiers of 30 RR patrolling party was attacked by the militants at Ganapora near Yaroo area of Langate Handwara and the fire was retaliated which resulted into the gunfight for sometime.

Local reports told GNS that the forces continued a siege around the gunfight spot till wee hours of Wednesday and also launched search operation to retrieve the bodies of the militants from the area.
However, after finding nothing from the area, operation was called off.

Meanwhile officials in army while confirming to GNS said that militants managed to escape from the spot which resulted operation was called off early this morning.

However despite repeated attempts police officials were not available for commits. (GNS)
