Handwara: Army’s claim of killing a militant yesterday at Hafruda forests of Handwara in north Kashmir has been strongly contested by a family saying that the slain was their son who had gone missing few days ago.

Local sources quoting family of Shahid Ahmad Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir from Daril Tarthpora in Handwara told Kashmir Reader that the slain was not a militant but 23 year old Shahid from Daril Tarthpora in Handwara.

They said that massive protests are underway in slain youth’s native village and police were ascertaining the facts.

DGP SP Vaid told KR that police have started investigating the matter.

The family of Daril Taratpur Handwara claimed that Shahid was killed in a “fake encounter” by army.

Pertinently, the army had claimed yesterday they killed a militant in a gunfight in north Kashmir forests.
