DURING SHEENA CONFERENCE AT DRASS KARGIL LADAKH

Kargil 17 August, 2017:-Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today organized a One Day State Level Shina Conference at Dak Bungalow Drass Kargil. Chairman State Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali inaugurated the conference who also presided over the proceedings of the daylong conference. Deputy Speaker State Legislative Assembly Nazir Gurezi was the chief guest on the occasion.  The literary and cultural extravaganza was also attended by the Executive Councillor for Education Advocate Muhammad Amir, Advisor to CEC Kargil Haji Muhammad Shafi & Secretary J&K Cultural Academy Dr.Aziz Hajini. Spread over four sessions the event saw in attendance writers, poets and intellectuals from Drass and Gurez areas who shared their fresh literary endeavors in prose and poetry and reflected upon the origin, development, challenges, opportunities and future prospects of Shina language.

Speaking on the occasion Haji Anayat Ali while appreciating the initiative of the Academy for having organized this programme at Drass expressed hope that it will pave way for the further development of the Shina language in the state, adding he said that language is the necessary element that determines the true identity of any race that needs to be preserved. He also urged upon the need to ensure that usage of local vocabulary is maximized wherever possible, so as to avoid the erosion of the local vernacular expressions. Expressed the immediate need to get Purgi language recognized in the language schedule of the state constitution besides the holding of interviews for the posts of Assistant Editors and Research Assistants in Shina and Balti languages the Chairman said that he has taken up this issue with the Chief Minister and appropriate action in this regard is expected in near future.

In his address Nazir Gurezi while hailing the initiative of the Academy for holding this first ever state level conference at Drass expressed hope that literary gatherings of such nature would facilitate interaction and exchange of ideas among the Shina/ Dardi scholars. He urged upon the intellectuals and artists of both regions as well the literary enthusiasts to work in tandem and unison and to extend all out support to the Academy so as to devise innovative ways and means to further foster the preservation and promotion of the language.

In his address Secretary Academy Dr. Aziz Hajini while expressing contentment and happiness over the cultural treasure trove of the Dard Shin race and the enthusiasm of its people highlighted the initiatives being taken by the Academy for the preservation and development of its literary and cultural traditions. Hajini said that after the Shina literary conferences held at Srinagar and Gurez in the past, this is yet another platform being provided by the Academy for the writers and intellectuals of this language to sit together, interact, and exchange ideas and thoughts and to devise innovative ideas and concepts so as to devise strategies for the further promotion of the language.

Hajini also informed that the Academy is holding colorful Kargil Festival at Zanskar in the next week of August which shall be an ideal platform to the Purgi, Balti, Shina, Zanskari and Ladakhi artists of the region to exhibit their flamboyant folk song and dance forms, adding he said that the step will further ensure the preservation and promotion of the folk traditions which are gradually fading away due to the influence of the outward cultures.

Meanwhile Mukhtar Zahid Badgami presented the Key Note Address while as Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh and Raza Amjad Badgami presented their research oriented papers. Poets Ghulam Ahmad Khan Jawan, Barkat Ali Lone Nizami, Muhammad Asgar Asvi, Ghulam Qadir Zaki, Muhammad Shafi Sagar, Molvi Neyaz Ahmad Neyazi, Ataullah Parwaaz, Farooq Ahmad Noorie, Abdul Majeed Sehra and Feroze Ahmad Chiraag presented their poetic renderings in the poetic symposium held on the occasion.

Chief Editor Urdu Muhammad Ashraf Tak, Special Officer for Culture Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak and Raza Amjed Badgami conducted the proceedings while as Deputy Secretary/ SOCA-G1 Kargil Nazir Hussain delivered the vote of thanks.

Colorful cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion.
