Srinagar: The PDP-BJP coalition government had detained senior resistance leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a day before the joint resistance leadership (JRL) had called for complate shutdown on Monday.Reports said that Mirwaiz, who heads his faction of Hurriyat Conference, was placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence on Sunday afternoon.
Number of government forces has been enhanced around Mirwaiz’s residence, reports added.
The JRL led by Syed Ali Geelani has called for a protest shutdown on Monday, November 27, to “show sympathy with incarcerelated political prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir” and against “government slaught in southern parts of Kashmir valley”.
88-year-old Geelani suffers from various ailments for which he needs special care and treatment.
