Srinagar, Apr 20 :- People were allowed to offer Friday prayers in historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar after remaining locked for two successive Fridays in view of curfew-like restrictions imposed on April 6 and April 13 to prevent any law and order problem.

Friday prayers during the last two weeks were not allowed following curfew-like restrictions imposed in downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) following killing of civilians in security forces action.
Meanwhile, special players were held at various mosques on the occasion of Friday following Shab-i-Meraj, which was celebrated across the valley last week.

Despite incessant rains, hundreds of people, including women, joined the Friday prayers in the Jamia Masjid, where moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq addressed the congregation after two weeks.

Friday prayers were also offered across the Kashmir valley, including at the shrine of Gousal-ul-Azam Peer Dastigeer Sahib at Khanyar and shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib on the hill of Kohi-e-Maran in downtown Srinagar.
