Internet snapped, class work at GDC Handwara, Higher Secondary Schools of Mawar, Langate zones to remain suspended today

Srinagar, Sep 11 : A gunfight broke out in Galoora area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

Reports reaching GNS said that that army’s 30 RR, 92 bn CRPF and SOG cordoned Galoora area of Langate during pre dawn hours.

Soon after the joint team of forces fired several gunshots amid the cordon leading to an encounter, they said.

An army officer also confirmed that the gunfight broke out between the militants and the government forces in the area and said that two militants are believed to be trapped.

He said that the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the village at around 2:30 am following specific information about the presence of some militants.

SP Handwara Ashish Mishra also confirmed that a contact has been established with hiding militants in Galoora village.

He said that operation is ongoing as exchange of firing is going on.

Unconfirmed reports said that two bodies are lying near the encounter site, however there was no official confirmation with regard to the killing.

Meanwhile, in wake of the gunfight, authorities directed telecom companies to snap internet services in Handwara parts while as district administration Kupwara has decided to suspend class work today in GDC Handwara and all Higher Secondary Schools of Mawar and Langate Zones as a precautionery measure.
