GDC organizes one day Seminar on Drug Abuse

Ganderbal, August 14: The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla, encouraged the students to make success, not drugs, their addiction.

He made these remarks in a one day inter institutional seminar on “How Drug abuse is the most threatening issue for all of us” organized by Government Degree College (GDC), Ganderbal here today.

Prof Asma Arshi, Assistant Professor, GDC, Ganderbal formally welcomed the audience. The seminar was presided over by the Principal of the college.

Lauding the initiative of college for organizing seminar on such social evil, Dr. Singla urged the students to live healthy life and not become prey to drug addiction.

He stressed upon the students to imbibe good habits and impressions from the college which will influence at all stages of life and will help in making your career bright as college time is precious in the life of student.

The Principal in his inaugural address deliberated upon the importance of awareness vis-a-vis Drug abuse and the possible remedies available.

Prof Naureen Naseer, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, GDC, Ganderbal gave a detailed presentation on Drug Abuse and its treatment. Prof Mudassir Roshan, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, gave a power point presentation on “Search for drug de-addiction in nature”.

Thirteen students from different institutions presented their papers highlighting different aspects of drug addiction and how it cripples our society. The speakers noted with satisfaction that the rate of drug abuse in the district Ganderbal has not crossed alarming proportions, however everyone has a role to perform, responsibility to fulfill for ourselves and for our future generations, for which we need to organize educative and awareness programmes at regular intervals.

The speakers in unison underlined the role of parents, elders, teachers and religious scholars and government in achieving the objective of a drug free society.

Later DDC distributed prizes among the meritorious students in the seminar. Nighat Athar from GDC, Ganderbal; Rameez from GDC, Pattan and Areeba from Qamaria Higher Secondary school bagged Ist, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Consolation prize was given to Shazia Mir, GDC,Bandipora.

The vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Falak Feroz. The proceedings of the seminar were conducted by two students of the college, Abid Nabi and Momina Jan.
