Restrictions on Heavy vehicles to ply through market road Ganderbal town

Ganderbal, November 14: In order to mitigate traffic congestion in Ganderbal town, Trucks and tippers, shall not be allowed to ply through market road Ganderbal town (Towheed chowk to Beehama road) from 8AM to 6 PM.

It was decided in a meeting of District Road Safety Committee chaired by District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla to discuss road safety measures and necessary steps to be taken to mitigate traffic congestion.

The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, Dy SP Traffic, Ex-En R&B, ARTO Ganderbal, CMO Ganderbal, CEO Ganderbal, EO Municipality and other members of district road safety committee besides representatives of Mini Bus, Sumo Unions.

Threadbare discussion was held on road safety, improvement of road markings, identification of blind spots on different routes, construction of Crash barriers, regulations of public and school buses, and such alike.

The meeting reviewed the prevailing scenario of road safety and steps being taken by concerned authorities to create awareness among masses to reduce road accidents and promote safe driving. Several decisions for achieving the goal of safe and secure roads were also taken during the meeting.

Various points were discussed in order to ensure that no life is lost or no untoward incidences occur on roads. Measures to be taken to evade traffic congestion at vital points like schools, market areas etc were discussed threadbare.

After threadbare deliberations upon the issues, DDC gave on spot instructions to concerned line departments. He asked the concerned to do safety Audit of various major roads and identify vulnerable and accident prone spots in the district.

Dr. Singla directed Police and traffic department to work hand in hand for strict checking of traffic rules violation.

DDC also directed the ARTO Ganderbal to create awareness at Tehsil level along with participatory of education departments among the public in general and driver community particularly about the benefits of following of traffic rules besides called for immediate action for improving identified black spots, installation of signages, painting of roads at appropriate spots, generation of awareness for making the roads in the district safer.

To curb the overloading in buses/mini-buses, the DDC directed the traffic department to put in place every effort to book the offenders especially drivers and conductors involved in over loading of vehicles besides ensure removal of stairs of buses/minibuses as a preventive measure to stop stair/roof overloading.

Municipal Committee authorities were instructed to remove vendors from roadsides and footpaths particularly in congested market places in support with police. He further directed the EO Municipality to make regular drives to remove the encroachments on the roads, which is an import factor of road accidents in the district.

In order to provide hassle free/reliable transport facilities to the general public of the district, all such private buses that are hired by school authorities were directed to ply on their respective routes within 5 days else their route permits shall be cancelled and strict action shall be taken against such school authorities.

While reviewing the progress of newly constructed Buss Adda in the district, it was decided that the Bus Adda will be thrown open within 5 days for the transporters.

The DDC impressed upon the officers to work with added zeal and zest and put in all efforts to improve over all regulations of the traffic in District to minimize the occurrences of traffic congestion and avoid road accidents.
