ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 22: The District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik, today chaired a Tribal Sub-Plan meeting to review the progress of various developmental activities in the Scheduled Tribe habitations of the district.

Detailed discussions were held on issues pertaining to the development of Bakarwal Chek as a Model Village in Verinag Tehsil, with all the required facilities and infrastructure under Tribal Sub Plan 2017-18.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Development Commissioner directed the officers of line departments to submit a detailed plan as per the needs of the proposed Model Village and other tribal areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director Tribal Affairs Department said the government is very keen in developing tribal areas of the State on modern lines and adequate funds have been made available for the purpose.

The meeting was informed that classes in the Eklaviya Model School Hapatnad shall commence in the next academic year with the school already inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Further developmental works worth Rs. 45 lac have been completed by PHE Department while as R&B has expended Rs. 40 lac on read connectivity in the tribal areas of the district.                         Besides, two Anganwadi Centres have been proposed for each tribal habitation.

Under the new TSP 2017-18, it was discussed that Animal Husbandry Department shall identify 20 families per dairy unit and establish 25 units in the Tribal areas of the district. The Sheep Husbandry Department shall set up 15 sheep units. In addition, Agriculture Department shall identify 35 hectares of land for the cultivation of pulses and other hybrid crops.

Further, land shall be identified in each tribal habitation for the construction of a Model School.  The CMO was directed to propose plan for upgrading health centres in the Tribal areas of the district for which requisite funds shall be kept available.

Other line departments also informed the meeting regarding their preparations and proposals for the overall development of the tribal areas.

The meeting was attended by CEOs of Pahalgam Development Authority & Verinag Development Authority, ACD, CEO, CMO, Xens of PDD, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Tehsildar Duru, representatives of tribal population and others.
