Move aims at identifying malnutrition, stunted growth among children BANDIPORA, JANUARY 27: The District administration Bandipora is all set to maintain growth chart of every child born in the district to identify malnutrition and stunted growth among the kids. This was stated by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad during a workshop cum training programme for ICDS workers including Anganwari Workers and Supervisors wherein they were imparted training to record the growth chart and Panchayat Development Index (PDI). Speaking on the occasion Joint Director Planning said that the growth charts shall be made available at all the 803 ICDS centers of the district wherein the workers will monthly record the Height and Weight and relate it with the corresponding age of the children and shall prepare the growth chart of every kid. While discussing the importance of the growth chart, JDP said that the Chart will help us in tracking the growth of a kid and if at any point of time the kid needs special nutrition, the same can be given to the kid to avoid malnutrition and stunted growth. The resource persons on the occasion also deliberated upon the recording of PDI. They said the PDI aims to capture movement in development at grass root level and to observe the impact of centrally sponsored schemes at Panchayat level. He said that the Panchayat Development Index is the first of its kind index in J&K and has been prepared after detailed discussions with line departments. While elaborating the PDI, he said there are 81 outcome indicators spread over six thematic areas of Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and allied sectors, Skill and Self Employment, Financial inclusion and Basic infrastructure. He urged the ICDS workers to maintain the growth chart of every children on regular basis so that its ensured that no kid remains malnutrioned in the society and proper care is taken of a kid facing problems in the initial years.
