Ganderbal 14 Mar (KNZ): A day long awareness programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was organised by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Kangan at Mamar here on Thursday.

The function was presided over by CDPO Kangan Rubeena Hamid, Block Medical Officar Kangan Shabir Ahmad Awan Sub Division magistrate Kangan Masrat Hashim was Guest of Honour on the occasion.

The programme was also attended by the Self Help Group (SHG) project Umeed Members, Anganwadi supervisor’s
Workers and locals.

While addressing Gathering SDM Kangan Masrat Hashim threw light on role of women in the society. He said women are important component of society who deserves respect, honour, dignity, love and affection at all levels.
Hashim said steps needed to be taken for ensuring secure future of daughter and providing academic, religious, political and socio-economic education to girls.

Speaking on the occasion BMO kangan Shabir Ahmad Awan said that if we have to correct the dismally low child sex ratio in the district, we must encourage and educate the common people about the importance of ‘Beti’ in the society for which Social Welfare Department has to play pivotal role and the successful implementation of Beti Bacha, Beti Padao could give it the required fillip.

Later CDPO Kangan Rubeena Hamid delved upon the provisions of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme and emphasised upon the need to generate awareness about the declining sex-ratio, prevention of gender biased sex-elimination by strict enforcement of laws and the need to provide inclusive education to the girl child. CDPO also stressed upon the need to generate awareness and public outreach of several women specific welfare programmes. She enjoined upon the feild staff to mobilise and sensitise the masses at grass-root about the BBBP and other women specific welfare schemes.

Meanwhile on these occasion, a colourful cultural programme was also organized in which school children and local artists participated besides prizes were distributed among the speakers and received applause from audience who were present on the occasion.KNZ
