Rescue operation launched: Div Com Jammu

Kishtwar, Sep 14 : Eleven persons were killed and fifteen others injured after a passenger vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge at Thakrie area of Kishtwar in Jammu region on Friday morning.

Giving details an official from the district administration Kishtwar told GNS that the mini-bus (Matador JK17-0663) skidded off the road and fell down about 250 ft deep into Chenab river at Tahtgan area near Kudiyapul in Thakrie area of Bhandarkot.

He said that eleven persons were killed on the spot while as fifteen others were injured, nine of them are in an unconscious state, and are being shifted to hospital.

Among the injured, the condition of the nine persons is stated to be very critical, he said.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma told GNS that soon after the mishap, a rescue operation has been launched which is still under way.

“We have also pressed helicopters into service while as senior officers of the district including Deputy Commissioner and SSP are on the spot and are supervising the operation,” Verma said.

He confirmed that so far five persons died and their bodies have been recovered by the rescue teams of police and disaster management.

He also expressed grief over the tragic incident. (GNS)
